Camp Kviteberg

Good turns after a morning in the rain. Skier: Fruda, AKA the Godfather of Lyngen

While on the Vulkana, I met David Skirnisson, owner of Camp Kviteberg. David is possibly the most genuinely passionate person I've ever met when it comes to appreciating every moment in life. An avid backcountry skier, mountain biker, farmer, and father, David moved to Lyngen four years ago and has been enjoying farm life since.

As one should, David dreams far too big for one lifetime. He sees Lyngen as more than challenging terrain and unrealized potential. He wants to share life in the mountains, and what Lyngen has to offer with those that want to find out.

I have a lot to thank David for. I will particularly remember his response to light rain at the trailhead before a 1500 meter hike: "Ignore it".

Backyard surprise.

So I did.

Coasting out of a nice run in the backyard.

The rain turned to snow, then eventually stopped, our hiking didn't We found ourselves at the top as clouds were breaking. We enjoyed good visibility and freshly fallen snow.

Enjoying every day, and keeping the big picture in mind is an important part of the way David approaches his lifestyle. Even a bad day in the mountains is better than a day at a desk.

Raven, like all of David's kids, doesn't know how to frown.

David's kind patience with a region that hesitates to give up even the smallest of objectives, and his unrelentingly positive attitude towards going out and doing what you love is the kind of spirit I've found to epitomize Lyngen.
